Scott Kazmir, #19 left-handed pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, is 6-5 for the season as of June 12, 2010, with a victory against the Dodgers. This season Kazmir boasts a 5.27 ERA, and he is projected to finish out this season at his current ERA level of 5.27. His highest ERA this season was at 13.5 the first game he pitched this season against the Yankees. He has steadily improved that as the season has progressed. Now in his 7th season, Kazmir holds an impressive 3.93 career ERA.
Over his 66.2 innings played this season, he has allowed 68 hits and has given up 41 runs of which 39 were earned runs. He has given away 9 home runs this season. Kazmir has also walked 34 batters and has struck out 46. When facing left-handed batters this season he has allowed an estimated .420 batting average, and against right-handed batters he has allowed an estimated .225 batting average. During home games, he allows a .289 batting average, and he allows on away games a .289 batting average. His batting average this season is a .263.
Coming out of a 2009 season that began on the disabled list for the Tampa Bay Rays, before being traded to the Angels, Kazmir has been fairly healthy this season. During spring training for the 2010 season, Kazmir had admitted that he felt he wasn’t in the best shape that he could have been the prior season. He made comments about not having the “explosiveness” that he wanted coming off the mound, after quickly tiring in innings.
Due to that admission, he spent much of the off-season working on strength training. With a guided routine that focused on his core muscles and leg muscles, he has seen improved results and greater consistency. Out of the training, also came a greater range of motion and greater flexibility. Overall, this season Kazmir has shown consistent improvement from what could turn out to be a potential career low season in 2009 and has made a positive contribution to the Angels organization in 2010.
